The landlords policy only covers the building and contents owned by the landlord. The tenant is expected to insure his or her own possessions.

A Tenant homeowners policy is similar to a homeowners policy except that it only covers the personal possessions of the renter. In the event of a fire, or any other covered cause of loss, the policy will pay to repair or replace the insured's personal property. This policy also provides liability coverage to the insured.
